Troubleshooting: Why Your Google File Isn't Loading on a monday.com Board

The five common reasons an embedded Google Doc, Sheet, or Slide isn't loading inside a monday.com board — and what to do about each one.

If your Google Easy Embed view has gone blank, shows a Google “request access” screen, or won’t load at all, the cause is almost always one of five common issues. Here’s how to diagnose and fix each one.

1. You (or the viewer) aren’t signed into the right Google account

Symptom: The embed shows a Google sign-in screen, or a “you don’t have access” message.

Cause: Many people are signed into multiple Google accounts in the same browser (a personal one, a work one). The embed renders against whichever account is the default — and that’s often not the one with access to the file.

Fix:

  1. Open Google Drive in another tab.
  2. In the top-right, click your profile picture → check which account you’re currently using.
  3. If it’s not the one with file access, sign out of the other accounts (or use a different browser profile for monday).

2. You haven’t connected your Google account to Easy Embed yet

Symptom: The board shows a Connect to Google button instead of the file.

Cause: Each user has to connect their Google account to Easy Embed once. New teammates added to a board haven’t done this yet.

Fix: Click Connect to Google and approve the standard permissions screen. See connect to Google for the full flow.

3. The Google file’s sharing settings don’t include the viewer

Symptom: The embed shows Google’s “Request access” prompt.

Cause: Easy Embed doesn’t grant Google file access — it just renders the file. If the file isn’t shared with the viewer’s Google account, Google blocks the render.

Fix:

  1. Open the file directly in Google Drive (separate tab, as the file owner).
  2. Click Share.
  3. Make sure the viewer’s email is on the list with at least Viewer access.
  4. Re-load the monday board.

For external guests on a monday board, this is the most common failure mode. See permissions and sharing for the full setup.

4. The access mode doesn’t match Google’s sharing role

Symptom: The embed loads but shows a read-only banner when you expect to be able to edit, or it loads but interactions fail silently.

Cause: The Easy Embed access mode (View / Comment / Edit / Restricted) and Google’s sharing role on the file have drifted out of sync.

Fix: Open the embed view, click the Access dropdown in the toolbar, and pick the level that matches what’s set in Google Sheets/Docs share settings. See access modes.

5. The file was moved, renamed, or trashed in Google Drive

Symptom: The embed shows a generic “couldn’t load this file” or 404 inside the iframe.

Cause: The file the embed was bound to has been moved to a different Drive location that the connected account can’t see, renamed in a way that broke the reference, or trashed.

Fix:

  1. Search Google Drive for the file by its original name (or check Trash).
  2. If found, you can either re-share it with the connected account or re-embed it — open the Easy Embed view’s File menu and use Replace file to pick it again.
  3. If lost, restore from Drive’s version history (right-click in Drive → Version history) or recreate the file.

Less common, but worth checking

Browser extensions blocking the iframe

Privacy extensions (uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, NoScript) sometimes block third-party iframes from Google. Symptom: the iframe is just blank space.

Fix: Whitelist monday.com and google.com in the extension, or use a different browser to confirm.

Corporate browser policy blocking third-party cookies

Some organisations disable third-party cookies via group policy. Google embeds need third-party cookies to authenticate. Symptom: the iframe loads but immediately shows a sign-in prompt.

Fix: Talk to IT — they can usually whitelist accounts.google.com and docs.google.com while keeping other restrictions in place.

Mobile browser quirks

Mobile Safari especially has historically had quirky handling of iframe authentication. If a teammate reports the embed only failing on mobile but working on desktop, try Chrome mobile as a sanity check before going further.

When to contact support

If none of the above resolves it, contact support@bam-apps.com with:

  • The board URL.
  • The Easy Embed view URL or name.
  • A screenshot of what you’re seeing.
  • Which Google account email you’re signed in as.

The first three usually let us diagnose without a screen-share.
